Football is back.
North Dakota high school football is back, which means it’s time for all of us to spend the next three months pretending we knew exactly what was going to happen all along.
Those of you who think North Dakota lacks scenery, go to a September football game on a Friday night and take a picture as the sun begins to set during the first half. You’ll get a backdrop that looks like it’s straight out of a Zach Bryan music video. Something in the orange, indeed.
Add the 65-degree weather and the smell of burgers coming off a grill manned by five dudes in blue jeans with a cooler full of “adult pops” sitting in the cab of one of the many red pickups at the game, and you’re in North Dakota Nirvana.
Bless you if you’re sitting next to a dad (even worse if it’s a mom) yelling “HOLDING!” every other play, but hey, it’s all part of the experience. At least in North Dakota we could expect that guy to still be willing to jumpstart your vehicle if needed after the game.
Anyway, we supposedly came here to talk about football.
