The ND Sports Almanac was built with one purpose in mind: to keep North Dakota’s sports stories alive and accessible. From dusty box scores in forgotten gyms to championship moments under Friday night lights, we dig into the past while shining a light on the present.
Sports in North Dakota have always been about more than wins and losses—they’re about communities, rivalries, friendships, and the pride that comes from pulling on your town’s colors. Our mission is to capture that spirit, to gather the history, and to share it with anyone who still gets goosebumps when they hear about a big game decades later.
What we stand for:
- Preservation: Documenting and honoring the athletes, teams, and traditions that shaped our state.
- Access: Making North Dakota sports history easy to find, whether you’re a diehard fan, a former player, or just curious.
- Community: Building a place where the stories of small towns and big moments are celebrated together.
This is your almanac. This is North Dakota’s sports story. And it’s still being written.

We will cover individual athletes, teams, coaches, records and more. Each week will have a featured athlete that is either a North Dakota born athlete (Darin Erstad) or someone that attended college here and made their mark on the state (Jonathan Toews).
Rivalries from high school to college will get covered as well. And yes, there is more to our state than UND vs. NDSU.

There is a satire section of our website called “The Grain Bin” which is meant to be light-hearted humor. Think of it like “The Onion” but based on things that North Dakotan’s (and others) can relate to. If you choose to take things there too seriously, I can promise that you won’t be taken seriously.
The site will have a presence on Instagram and X, likely with Facebook to follow. Take a look around the website, we are posting as much content as possible, hoping to steadily grow!
