Ed Beyer and Jack Demaine are two of the most known basketball coaches in North Dakota history. Legends in their own communities, the two met at the 1992 State “B” Boys Basketball tournament. Beyer’s Hillsboro Burros took on Demaine’s Munich Magicians.
At the time of the game the two coaches had combined for 1,016 career wins. Demaine (409 wins) and Beyer (607 wins) is the most combined wins between two coaches in State Tournament history. Their teams met in the 1992 semi-final round, which was made available on YouTube by the “Wirth Family Videos” channel. All three games by Munich are available on the video, but the battle between Beyer and Demaine is the 2nd video.
Munich would go on to win the state championship game in the third game on this video. Pretty cool to see two coaching legends like Jack DeMaine and Ed Beyer run into each other at the State “B” Tournament. Their impact on basketball in this state cannot be overstated.
